Whether you're an art enthusiast, a design student, or simply curious about traditional South Asian art, this workshop offers an opportunity to slow down, learn a new skill and experience the patience and precision behind miniature painting.

What Will You Learn?

Over two days, you'll be introduced to Siyah Qalam, a traditional monochrome technique that uses fine lines, tonal variations, and intricate detailing to build character and depth.

Your guided learning experience will include:

Understanding Siyah Qalam: Discover the technique and its place within the miniature painting practice.

Preparing Wasli Paper: Learn about traditional paper preparation and burnishing.

Drafting Your Composition: Explore how to develop and transfer your drawing onto the prepared surface.

Working with Traditional Tools: Get hands-on experience with the Qalam and the tools used to create fine details.

Exploring Line and Tone: Practise the delicate strokes and shading that bring a miniature artwork to life.

Creating Your Own Artwork: Work towards your own miniature portrait with guidance from the instructor.

No previous painting experience is requiredjust curiosity, patience, and a willingness to explore.
